Why Do We Teach?

A simple but profound question. I am director of about 3 years now, and I remember clearly my own classroom. I taught American history to juniors in high school. Surprisingly, this was before there was so much pressure to nail the standards. When I was a schoolboy, I had no idea what I wanted, but I knew a teacher was in demand. The story? It was ok, but it has no spark of love for learning. All this is my third year of secondary school changed. I had a wonderful learning, Loyola Hearn, who has changed everything.

It created in me a love for history. I’m not sure I remember all the details, they taught us, but it taught me to keep the history. I pursued this as a student. To date, I still love the story. My bookshelves are divided between the history books and educational practice / leadership books.

When I taught American history, my goal was to generate the same kind of interest in history. I knew my students would probably remember small details. I would just find it interesting, leading to a love of history. I know that standards and mostly down to them. I’m not sure that would fly today. If this happened in one state be tested, I know he would not fly. But I felt that I could interest this would create real learning. In retrospect, if I’d do it again, I would pay more attention to standards, because it’s the right thing to do. But I know I would be a way for the same atmosphere of the story to find fascinating, riveting, happy, sad, personal, etc. ..

I’m not really sure where the focus of this paper is in progress. I guess I just want one of the most critical educators – focused on standards, while making your class fun to clarify. In retrospect, I never had any discipline problems in my class. I’ve never really sure why. I’ve never yelled at students and I was not always the authority of the games. I also have a concerted effort every day to my class exciting. We have done everything, talk shows Mock, living history demonstrations, you are the leader of the simulations, all to keep the children feared history class.
